FAQ

"Which versions of SharePoint are supported?"

iShare supports connecting to:

  • Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3)
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007) all editions
  • SharePoint Online

"Which document formats can I access with iShare?"

iShare can open:

  • Adobe Acrobat (.pdf)
  • Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx)
  • Microsoft Powerpoint (.ppt, .pptx)
  • Microsoft Excel (.xls, .xslx)
  • Images (.jpeg, .jpg, .tiff, .gif)
  • Web pages (.html, .htm, .aspx)
  • Text Files (.txt)
  • Contacts (.vcf)

"What content will I have access to?"

iShare only displays the same content your user account would normally have access to when using SharePoint. That means that sites, document libraries, lists & search results are all tailored to your access priviledges.

"How does iShare work?"

iShare connects to SharePoint using SharePoint's Web Services.

"Can you explain how the SharePoint search results work?"

The search functionality is designed to return the same set of search results as you would see in the web browser.

Clicking on different types of search results can produce different actions:

  • If you click on a Site result, it will drill into the site, as if you had navigated to it through the 'Browse' functionality.
  • If you click on a document, it will display the document.
  • Other search results typically load the search result in a safari browser control.
(we needed to do this due to limitations in SharePoint’s web services, although we intend to improve this experience over time)

"When is emailing documents support coming?"

We were in the process of implementing this functionality when the iPhone SDK 3.0 was previewed to developers. iPhone 3.0 will have good support for developers emailing attachments through the built-in mail client. For security and usability reasons, we have decided to wait for iPhone 3 before releasing this feature.
